Craftsmanship

The Craft

All pieces are thoughtfully designed and constructed using time-tested joinery techniques. Dovetail, mortise-and-tenon, and other interlocking joints are crafted with precision, using the inherent strength of the wood to provide a long life without screws or nails. Each design allows for the expansion and contraction of the wood due to changes in climate.

The Designs

Traditional Mission and Shaker designs have expanded over time to include strong Asian influences, Modern and Mid-century Modern styles. All styles have emphasis on simple geometries that highlight the natural grain of the solid wood. Each piece is made to order, and customer input is very welcome during the design process.

The Wood

Furniture Grade hardwoods are individually selected for each design to show off the natural color and character of each species. When possible, the wood is from sustainable native forests. Available species include cherry, maple, walnut, red oak, white oak, ash and mahogany.

The Finish

We take great pride in the "finishing touch" on Southern Joinery furniture. A special blend of clear, penetrating oils is used to bring out the natural beauty of the wood while at the same time hardening and protecting its surface. Many coats are applied by hand-rubbing over a period of several days to develop an integral finish that is both durable and silky smooth to touch. Only an occasional, light wax coating is needed to maintain the finish for decades. In case of damage, the finish can be retouched without refinishing the entire piece.

The Guarantee

If at any time you are not fully satisfied with the craftsmanship of your furniture, we will gladly repair or replace the piece or provide a refund.
